4 Teams Champions of Vulcan Cup
|
|
|
For years the Impact has supported the Vulcan Cup in Birmingham, Alabama and we have always had a couple of teams in the finals at the event. 2008 was a great year for Impact teams at the prestigious Vulcan Cup.
The first week was the boys’ event and our 97 Impact Nike team won the tournament in the Bronze Division. They boys were not happy with their placement in the Bronze Division, so they did what you should do when you feel you have been placed in too low of a bracket. They won all four games, out scoring their opponents 14 to 1.
The second week was the girls’ tournament and we had 3 champions this event. The 95 girls Impact Nike team won the Iron division. They too were frustrated by a low seeding, but proved their point with a tournament championship.
The u11 girls 97 Impact Nike-Mummey won the Gold division and continued their streak of five consecutive tournament championships always playing in the highest division at the biggest tournaments in the East. Great job girls!
The u14 girls 94 Impact Nike also won the gold division beating two state champions in the process. The 94 girls played in the finals last year and won the tournament in 2005.
We are very proud of all of the teams and it is always good to see Knoxville represented so strongly in such a difficult tournament. Great job everyone!
Congratulations to: 94 Impact Girls - Nike u14G Champions 95 Impact Girls - Nike u13G Champions 97 Impact Girls Nike - Mummey U11G Champions 97 Impact Boys - Nike U11B Champions

Dear Soccer Friends and Families,
Many of you have probably heard rumors of “big things” happening in
Knoxville soccer. The purpose of this letter is to let everyone know
the facts. We can assure you that the truth is more exciting than
anything you may have heard. The story begins about 5 months ago when a
few people began talking about the possibility of unifying competitive
soccer in Knoxville. This eventually led to a meeting about 5 weeks ago
between the major soccer entities in Knoxville. This was a significant,
historic, and unprecedented event. For the first time ever,
representatives from these organizations, who have been intense
competitors for years, actually sat down together in the same room to
discuss the possibility of working together. This was an open and
honest discussion of differences in philosophy and organization. People
in that meeting were open to the possibility and acknowledged the
potential benefits to all the families and players of competitive
soccer in Knoxville. This has led to a series of meetings where various
organizational schemes were discussed. We have begun to establish a
trust that has never before been seen in Knoxville.
We would
also like to dispel some of the misunderstandings that have emerged.
This venture and these discussions have been conducted by equal parties
looking to improve soccer in this town. None of the clubs are on the
verge of “folding.” In fact, it would be easier to maintain the status
quo. We could all easily go on as we are, trading players, teams,
coaches, and competing for field space each year. However, most of the
parties believe that combining our organizations is fundamentally the
right thing to do. No single person is behind this. This is a combined
effort. Compromises will be necessary, but consider what we all can
gain:
• combined resources • combined player pool • combined coaching staff • greater influence on county government for facility improvements
We truly believe this is a great opportunity.
At
this stage, Impact and SMSC have agreed to move forward with this
effort to create a new club focused on giving every player, regardless
of level of play, the best club possible for Knoxville families to
enjoy. We believe that it is in the best interest of everyone involved
in competitive soccer to have a united club where we all work together
to promote the sport in a positive manner.
